5 Comments My Current Mindset

Article written by the majestic Sean Lloyd on the 30 Jun 2010

For a while I’ve spoken about not blogging anymore…because well…when I started I had a lot to say on a lot of things, but then I realised, you know, what is the point, and does anyone care? Probably not. Blogging is a very much self centred type thing, we have the guys who are trying to break records with regards to SEO, then we have the others who are trying to show people how awesome they are. Over time, I’ve lost interest in caring what people think of me, and I just want to write when I feel like it, and when I really have something to say. And I find this a good thing, as the blogs pumping out three or four posts a day are just posting shit to have content. Some blogs have such terrible direction, that you are actually unsure what they are about. I guess I don’t have a specific direction, but yeah…I try to have this blog as just a place where I write.

I also just hate having to document everything all the time. For instance, the World Cup has been the most phenomenal experience in Cape Town as well as Joburg, but I’ve just wanted to experience it fully, instead of thinking of stuff to write, and having to worry about taking photos. I haven’t taken many photos of the World Cup, all the memories and pictures and videos and emotions are stored in my head, and that’s all I need.

So this might explain my lack of posting lately. I just read some other local blogs, and they post a lot of rubbish just for the sake of posting, obviously to keep their readership up. I don’t care for numbers, I just want to still write cool things when I can. Even on that note I battle, but I just need to be open here. I thought my piece on the BP oil spill was a good one, it wasn’t the usual humour, but I think it brought the point across. And maybe that’s the direction I want to go in sometimes, instead of just talking about the awesome things I’m doing, I may want to actually make people think a bit. (Because there is more to life than being really, really ridiculously good looking!)

I just see so much rubbish posted on the internet about people talking about themselves, and I used to enjoy that, but I’m over it now. I don’t care if you’re on a boat, or in a hotel, I want to know real stories.

But whatever, I’m on a boat motherf*&%er!

Awesome.

On a serious note though, do you also find that too many local blogs are just posting random content just to fill space and have that daily post?

Especially on multi-authored blogs, I find the content to be too random and unfocused, and it’s taking away from what those blogs once were.

The local blogging scene has taken a bit of a dive, but maybe it’s just that we’re all enjoying the World Cup. We’ll see what happens afterwards and see if we can get into posting better content again.

I agree with you on some blogs just putting on content for the sake of having content but you quickly learn who to avoid, I personally stick to a handfull. The thing is should you not just say “fukkit” and carry on doing your own thing, snap out of it man.!

Clayton!

Shot for the comment dude. Yeah I've been speaking to a lot of people, I've come really ridiculously close to stopping blogging but it seems I'll carry on. My main problem is I'm too critical of my own stuff, sort of always thinking it's a bit shit, but then a lot of people read this every day, so to stop is a bit hectic. I dig what Nash is doing, posting when he has something to post/say, so I think I'll be following in that sort of trend instead of getting hacked at myself for not posting every day. I think a lot of the local blogs posting daily are losing quality, for the sake of quantity.

So I'll carry on, but just be less critical and not worry about always posting every day. Sounds like a plan!

$alute gaazy!

I fucking hate bloggers! All of them.

You included. Who the hell do you think you are dude, you say….wait….you mentioned me…in a good light. You’re so awesome, let’s trade links and talk about each other constantly.

I mean, blogging is probably the coolest thing anyone could do with their lives.

Ha ha Nash, lag! Seriously though, no blogger circle jerking, I dig it that you post when you can and when you have something. I'm so tired of blogs posting the most random shit all day, just for 'seo' and whatever the fuck it is. I've pretty much stopped reading a lot of the local stuff, not to say I'm doing the best work, but just an observation.

Always good times in the blogging world!
