Porsche Carrera GT

Porsche Carrera GT AKA Ultimate Pick Up Artist — I hope this is at the parade!

Ha! Ha ha! Whooooo heeeee ha ha woooo! Every single time I think of Porsche, I don’t think of awesome cars, I simply think of that scene from Super Trooper’s where the dude get’s pulled over by Ramathorn, and he simply says, in a classic accent:

“Sorry officer for ze speeding violation, I am so used to driving on ze autobahn”

“Do you know why I pulled you over”

“Because we were driving vay too fast”

Absolutely classic! Well look over there, this really has nothing to do with what I wanted to speak about so let us get onto the Porsche Parade in Cape Town and what is going to go down. Let us have a look at ze press release:

The 25th annual Porsche Parade takes place in Cape Town from October 23 – 25, where more than 80 Porsche cars will be on display. Drivers will compete for top honours in time trial and autocross events at Killarney race track, as well as a show and shine at the NG Church grounds in Franschhoek. (Durban translation: “Hey no man, spic ‘n span, shiny new bruuuu” — Sean)

The show and shine is a favourite for scores of sports car enthusiasts who have the opportunity, not only see the cars up close, but also to interact with the proud owners. (Touch them, get aroused, talking about the cars, not the owners. Ok maybe the owners as well — Sean)

The Porsche Club of South Africa has been in existence for 61 years and its annual parade is organised by a regional club, with this years’ event being hosted by Porsche Club Cape.

The event has been made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of the main sponsor, Bridgestone Tyres.   Other significant sponsors are Porsche and Big Foot Express with further support from Mobil 1, G. van Cuyck Insurance Consultants/MUA Underwriting Managers and Stafford Bros & Draeger (Pty) Ltd.

This year’s event will see five decades of Porsches attending, from a ‘60’s Porsche 356 (75hp) to the very latest Porsche Panamera.  Among the drivers participating will be Toby Venter (MD Porsche Centre South Africa) and some of his fellow competitors from the Altech Cup Series.

The following events are free of charge, and open to the public:-

Friday 23rd October, 08h00 – 16h00: Bridgestone Time Trials and Autocross at Killarney Race Track.

Sunday 25th October 2009 – Show & Shine at the NG Church Grounds, Main Rd, Franschhoek.

The following events form part of the Porsche Parade, but will not be open to the public due to safety restrictions:-

Saturday: Bridgestone Top End Run, Saldanha Bay

Full coverage of the weekend event will be broadcast on the popular motoring show, Ignition on DSTV channel 265.

Hmmmm I think I’ll attend that! Luckily we’re in Cape Town and not Joburg because in Joburg we’d have:

“Jussus bru, check the chrome hey. Like thick chroming bru. Ja chroming china!”

“Ah shut up Vince, I’ll chrome your mother boet!”

And Durban:

“Hey no man laanie, where’s the gold trim ‘n all?”

And no, I didn’t write that, it’s the ghost writer (In my mind) here at SLXS, who comes up with this rubbish.
