I am a betting genius

Remember all that time ago when I told you to bet on the rugby World Cup? When I told you this wealth of information, the betting was at 7-1 I believe.

Well…what’s happening?

Clearly we are going to win and it is now at 12-10! You would have wanted to bet at 7-1 but it’s too late now. For the betting go to Betxchange, click on the rugby World Cup fixed odds and see what I’m talking about.

It seems like just the other day the World Cup started, and now it’s getting crazy. I mean, everyone in the World Cup is just looking so mean. Speaking of this I have a piece for tomorrow on how the movie 300 has shaped this years Rugby World Cup. You don’t want too miss this one, it’s a spot of sheer genius. I have already written it, but will post it tomorrow to leave you in a bit of suspense.

YES!

Heritage Day/ National Braai Day/ Random

I don’t have too much to say about the whole holiday on Monday, but we did celebrate it at the Pink Palace of Porn in Hout Bay which was fun. So the photo below is a toast to all of you! And to the beautiful place we call Hout Bay. Admire the view, it’s quite crazy, seriously crazy. “Loco” also comes to mind.

A toast to you, to Cape Town and to excess!

Also, I must let you all know of my latest business venture. I want to start hiring out pool boys. Think about this before you think I am weird. Rich ladies, bored at home in summer, wanting to see young guys cruising around their gardens. Kind of like real life garden gnomes. You charge them ridiculous amounts because they have the money to spend, and it is good entertainment for them. Plus the pool boys make more money than working at a bar, it’s outdoor work and I take a cut of the money, thus further fuelling the stupid things I want to give to all of you!

Is this genius or not? I’m thinking at least R500 a day for this work. And by “day” I obviously mean a few hours. I think the Constantia area would be a good place to start advertising this venture. What I’m going to do here is just throw out the idea, and I’m throwing in a pool boy as well. Our very own Jerry D, the pilot of The Bomber! Jerry D is a man of leisure and a couple hours spent around a pool in summer will not cut into his precious time too much. Plus, he will earn some extra cash which he can use to fund his excessive lifestyle.

Cape Town pool boy, R500 per day

Jerry D might have a girlfriend, but she will let him do this work. I know she will. I’m setting this whole thing up, he can’t not do it. Do it for SLXS Jerry D!

So that’s it. “Pool boy for hire” is now out there, on the internet. E-mail me if you know of anyone wanting this work. Rich ladies, R500 a day is not too much to ask for some mildly amusing pool work in the Cape Town area. BOOM!

Just do it.

Betting on the Rugby World Cup

I have never really been into gambling, probably because I am too lazy to really learn the rules of games where I most likely wont win any money. However, I thought this would be a bit of a fun way to play with your money. Let’s all bet on the Springboks to win the Rugby World Cup! Why not? I think it’s a great idea.

As I heard from a friend today, if we don’t win the Rugby World Cup, then it is not a national catastrophe. However, it might be a catastrophe if we don’t reach the semi finals, because we should be able to do that. From there, the next stop is the final, and anything can happen in a final. It’s one single game and it can go either way, so it’s worth betting on our boys! It’s a little bit of a fun way to spend money anyway.

If the girlfriend/wife is unhappy that you want to drop R1000 on betting, then look at her Versace dress and say “Well we can always sell that?” That will immediately defuse the situation, and you are free to bet. If the boyfriend/ husband, is unhappy that you want to drop R1000 or so on betting, just look at him and say “No drinking alcohol during the World Cup then” This will settle the situation immediately, and he might in fact give you an extra R1000, for giving him his rights to consume alcohol back. It’s a win-win situation! And it could be a win-win-win situation if your bet comes through.

My reason for betting on the Springboks is that they are my team. That’s a given.

Other than that, in todays Cape Times(Monday September 3 edition) John Smit had this to say:

“I remember the first time we got together in Bloemfontein when Jake White first became the coach. He told us: ‘Boys, we’re going to win the World Cup in 2007′.”

Then flipping to Cape Times Sport section, there is the headline “Bok picture couldn’t be prettier” There is a photo of Jake White, President Thabo Mbeki and John Smit with a quote beneath that from the President saying “I really don’t see why we should not win, I think we can and we should”

Fantastic.

Here is also an article on the World Cup that might be of interest

Other than that, I have just been listening to general talk around town about the World Cup, and everyone is positive that we can win it. Obviously the last World Cup was a disaster, but this is the first time since 1995 that I have really heard everyone being positive about the Springboks. For me, these are great reasons to place a bet.

I also think it’s great that finally, everyone seems to be fully in support of the Springboks. They have had hard times with the press and the public, and hopefully they can turn this around with a win.

For a sports betting website, go to Betxchange.co.za Click on 2007 rugby World Cup fixed odds, and go for our South African boys for the win!

Obviously don’t bet your entire life on it, but if you have a bit of cash lying around to spend in a leisurely way, then I would bet with it.

SLXS has the money on South Africa.

And why shouldn’t we?

Let’s make this money work

A house- Like the people of yesteryear might have wanted to own

I think we are all aware that life has changed dramatically for younger people these days. No longer are we forced into doing the same job that our parents did. In the old days you would leave school and no doubt get a pretty average job, where you would work your way up, and probably retire without having ever done anything too exciting with your life. You would retire the perfect average, having the 2.2 kids, the family home, the wife, the car and let’s be honest, a pretty boring life. Things have changed and people have come to realise that there are actually other jobs out there. There are so many different markets for business these days that people leaving school are actually overwhelmed by the choice of careers they have. We also realise that we don’t want to work our entire lives, just to pay off the house and afford food. We also want to be able to enjoy our lives, enjoy our work and make some good money. The popularity of books such as “Rich dad poor dad” and the books written by various moguls such as Donald Trump and Richard Branson show that there is a trend towards making your money work for you. And it’s also about having fun.

In my parents days they would never have thought of trading shares as it is all too risky. However, with great knowledge comes great power, and hopefully great wealth. There is so much information available today that you need to read up a lot, ask questions, talk to investors and people who have made money on the stock markets. It might not give you overnight wealth, but in the long term may pay off for you.

For people not wanting to take too many risks, you can invest your money in an account such as FNB’s Money Market. This is for people wanting to invest at least R10000. While the returns may not make you wealthy, they are better than the standard interest rates that banks offer. Interest on FNB’s Money Market is calculated on a daily balance and is paid out monthly.

The current rates can be seen HERE, and they range from 4.80% through to 7.90%per annum(As of 15 July 2007)

As you can see, this is a better option than just letting your money sit in a standard bank account. While it won’t buy you a private island, it is an easy way to earn more interest on your money.

However, the best way to “play” with your money, is to do a bit of share trading. I have read a few books on this but often these books are not based on the local market, and so the best way to learn about our local market, is to attend an investment course by a local bank.

I think investing on the stock market is quite a fun way to play with money. I say play because you would not exactly use money that is set aside for food and rent to play on the stock market. First, pay off all the essentials, and then if you have some spare money, try and invest it wisely. Obviously “play” is not the right word, as you want to actually make some informed decisions, but I think money is fun to play with, especially when that playing earns you rewards.

Investing and share trading is a complicated business, but I think everyone should try and get involved in it sometime.

Locally, Standard Bank offer various courses from the beginners courses on “Getting started in shares” and “Introduction of investing” right through to the more advanced “Introduction to Single Stock Futures”

I think it is worth attending these courses, and over time hopefully you will see yourself making more money, with less effort, more leisure time, and a greater happiness.

For information on these courses, please click HERE

You can book online to attend the courses and the course on “Getting started in shares” takes place in Cape Town on Thursday 30 August 2007.

Make sure you book it, it’s worthwhile, especially for younger people. The sooner you get started, the sooner you will learn and the sooner you will(hopefully) be living the dream.
