The movie on my radar this week is Public Enemies, which stars one of my all time favourite actors, Johnny Depp. A friend of the late Hunter S Thompson, Johnny Depp played his character in Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas. And now he is back on South African cinema screen with the newly released Public Enemies.
The movie follows FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) and his attempts at capturing the notorious bank robber John Dillinger.
Dillinger is a here in the eyes of the public as they blamed the banks for the problems caused by the great depression. At the height of Dillingers ‘career’ he was virtually unstoppable.
The FBI, under the leadership of J Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup) were quite a new force in the 1930’s, and to show how good they were, Hoover set them the task of capturing Dillinger. Purvis, the lead agent, was unleashed to capture Dillinger by whatever means possible.
Purvis however underestimated Dillingers abilities as a master criminal and would need to set out on a series of cunning betrayals in order to try and capture this notorious bank robber.
I think this movie sounds really cool! I’ll be watching it this week, and if you’re keen to book online then simply go over to Ster Kinekor and book your tickets online.
