5 Comments My Current Mindset

Article written by the brilliant on the 30 Jun 2010 , in the Uncategorized category

For a while I’ve spoken about not blogging anymore…because well…when I started I had a lot to say on a lot of things, but then I realised, you know, what is the point, and does anyone care? Probably not. Blogging is a very much self centred type thing, we have the guys who are trying to break records with regards to SEO, then we have the others who are trying to show people how awesome they are. Over time, I’ve lost interest in caring what people think of me, and I just want to write when I feel like it, and when I really have something to say. And I find this a good thing, as the blogs pumping out three or four posts a day are just posting shit to have content. Some blogs have such terrible direction, that you are actually unsure what they are about. I guess I don’t have a specific direction, but yeah…I try to have this blog as just a place where I write.

I also just hate having to document everything all the time. For instance, the World Cup has been the most phenomenal experience in Cape Town as well as Joburg, but I’ve just wanted to experience it fully, instead of thinking of stuff to write, and having to worry about taking photos. I haven’t taken many photos of the World Cup, all the memories and pictures and videos and emotions are stored in my head, and that’s all I need.

So this might explain my lack of posting lately. I just read some other local blogs, and they post a lot of rubbish just for the sake of posting, obviously to keep their readership up. I don’t care for numbers, I just want to still write cool things when I can. Even on that note I battle, but I just need to be open here. I thought my piece on the BP oil spill was a good one, it wasn’t the usual humour, but I think it brought the point across. And maybe that’s the direction I want to go in sometimes, instead of just talking about the awesome things I’m doing, I may want to actually make people think a bit. (Because there is more to life than being really, really ridiculously good looking!)

I just see so much rubbish posted on the internet about people talking about themselves, and I used to enjoy that, but I’m over it now. I don’t care if you’re on a boat, or in a hotel, I want to know real stories.

But whatever, I’m on a boat motherf*&%er!

Awesome.

On a serious note though, do you also find that too many local blogs are just posting random content just to fill space and have that daily post?

Especially on multi-authored blogs, I find the content to be too random and unfocused, and it’s taking away from what those blogs once were.

The local blogging scene has taken a bit of a dive, but maybe it’s just that we’re all enjoying the World Cup. We’ll see what happens afterwards and see if we can get into posting better content again.

6 Comments Damien Hirst Is A Bit Kak Actually

Article written by the brilliant on the 29 Jun 2010 , in the Uncategorized category

In fact, fine art is a bit shit really! I’ve never understood the world of fine art really, but probably because I’m not a raging drug addict. The prices of some of this shit is astronomical, for what is really some interpretation of what LSD, weed and booze make you see. Damien Hirst is supposedly an ‘artist’, but sorry to break it to you D-Dog, you’re a bit shit actually. I mean, your shark in formaldehyde is cool and all, but crisis, anyone can do it. You just managed to get hold of a shark!

damien hirst shark

I’ve been covering ants in Pratley glue for years, I would have done a shark but I don’t find those in my garden too often. If I was on acid I’d probably see a shark in my garden, mind you, I’d probably also go to Candy Mountain like Charlie did:

Besides the point.

Damien Hirst recently did an artistic version of an Audi A1 for some or other ridiculous AIDS thing for Elton John, I don’t really know, I’m not too interested. Fix global warming, instead of trying to maintain or increase the population.

damien hirst audi a1

Image Via
Damiens Audi reminds me of those thing we used to do at the Community Chest Carnival or something, where you throw paint onto some board, then they spin it around. It takes no skill and you can be an 11 year old meth head living in the Plein, and your piece of ‘art’ could be as good as Damiens (Mummy, mummy give a R4 for a piesang Steri Stumpie). I find the same thing with photography, yeah there is skill involved, but most photos come from being in the right situation and snapping a defining moment in time. The message in the photo comes from the people and places, not by the cameras settings and the users skill. If you look at some of the greatest photos in history, they’re all about defining moments. Many of the worlds greatest photos were taken on simple cameras, using film and no Photoshop.

Anyway, I’m just saying, Damien Hirst isn’t a good artist, he’s just the product of some stupid hype. He’s not changing the world…he’s just overrated.

And his work is kak.

0 Comments Sushi Model Wanted For This Weekend

Article written by the brilliant on the 24 Jun 2010 , in the Uncategorized category

Are you female?
Hot?
Skinny?
Want money?
Like to take your kit off?

Well then have we got a treat for you!

You can now use all your assets, lie down for half an hour with your kit off, and get paid! Seriously, I wish I was a woman, it’s so easy to make money if you just want to drop your morals a little bit.

Sleep with the boss? Boom you get paid loads of money while doing minimal work.

Take your clothes off in the evenings and swing on a pole. It’s so limiting being a guy!

Anyway for this weekend in Cape Town, you can take your clothes off and be paid. It is from Gumtree so sometimes it’s a bit dodgy, but hey, try it out and see what happens:

4 Comments Can We Please Shut Up About The BP Oil Spill?

Article written by the brilliant on the , in the Cape Town GREEN category

And no, it’s not because I don’t care about the environment, it’s because I’m sick and tired of hearing opinions and ideas from stupid people.

Do you want to know something? Some 113 million gallons of oil have spilled into the Gulf Of Mexico (According to THIS). At 42 gallons to the barrel, I believe this to be 269000 barrels of oil (Seriously correct me if I’m wrong, my maths is horrendous!)

You want to know more? Yesterday the world consumed some 85 million barrels of oil. Today we’ll do the same. Tomorrow we’ll continue. For the rest of our lives we’ll be consuming this, maybe more if we can, until we run out of oil. So we stress about spilling oil into the ocean, but we’re completely fine with burning our way through 85 million barrels of oil.

EVERY.

SINGLE.

DAY.

Its classic of the human race, to want to blame somebody, instead of admitting to being part of the problem. We’re suddenly forgetting about all the other petroleum companies wasting the environment away. We forget that every aspect of our lives is dominated, and run by oil. We forget about all the plastic and chemicals we pump into the environment. We forget that the synthetic dyes from our clothing gets washed into the environment. Things like thinners, turps, paint…when painters are done, what do they do? Wash it down the drain. Into the land and sea.

We’re as much to blame as BP. No one is in the clear. We’re all the problem.

And what pisses me off the most is the celebrities coming out to boycott BP. Like we care what some stupid person with lots of money has to say. FFSakes, it’s an environmental crisis, not a marketing opportunity. Shut up and do something about it. Don’t use your name, I don’t care that you’re Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber. You know nothing about the real problems in the world, because you’re so consumed by your fake world.

You want to know something else? All that plastic and shit you throw in the street, you know where that ends up? In the ocean, killing wildlife, but the press don’t care about that too much. They don’t care about it, because no one can see it. It’s not visible as a dirty black oil slick covering the wildlife so it can’t be bad. Google “North Pacific Gyre” and you will see what I mean. Or we can have a quick look at this video:

The quality isn’t great, but it gets the message across. Also read THIS piece on Greenpeace to explain it a little more.

Also, a couple of Google searches landed me at a nice round number. One billion. Around 1 billion tons of pesticides are used every year. Oh wait…that’s only in the US.

So while it is great that every single tool on the planet is blaming BP, I think we really need to take a look at the situation, and realise that it’s not important. Our opinions don’t matter, because the environment can’t hear us. The only time it will hear us, is when we stop abusing it.

So stop using the BP oil spill to blame someone, and stop using it to promote your brand.

Stand up, get out, and do something. Until then,  kindly shut up.

UPDATE: In response to this being retweeted, please also support the ROSE Foundation who collect used oil. Never, ever throw used motor oil down the drain, because then you’re doing the same as BP…and what’s the point in that?

2 Comments Help Me Choose

Article written by the brilliant on the 21 Jun 2010 , in the Uncategorized category

I think I need new sunglasses. If enough ads are clicked, ha ha haaaaaaa! I just find that Ray Ban, while offering awesome looks, never quite give me the sun protection I need from all angles. Oakley nail it with wrap around vision. But then again, Aviators are a classic, and the Ray Ban Caravan are SICK. I’m probably leaning towards the Inmates (Polarized), then the Caravan, then Aviators, then Jawbones. The Jawbones are more just for an outrageous effect. The Inmates are the Oakley from Book Of Eli:

2 Comments Joburg: Where Do We Start

Article written by the brilliant on the , in the Uncategorized category

As you all know, I rolled into Joburg last week for some international public relations and peace keeping…and didn’t speak  to one local! It was all Australia (G’day mate!) and Mexico (Amigo amigo!) We met the coolest supporters in the world, Mexico bring a massive vibe. It’s all tequila, sombreros and those Mexican wrestling masks like in Nacho Libre. There is a full write up coming, but I don’t know where to start. Some photos perhaps to get you into the mindset of me last week:

mexicano

Viva Mexico!

slinger

Lasith Malinga (Left)

There were our boys from Dubai, including Lasith Malinga (Surely?!) above, classic!

mexicana

Hey, Giio, and Malinga chillaxing in the corner!

I missed the boys in Cape Town due to a ridiculous schedule I have going, keeping the peace, doing my UN work, growing food and whatever else it is I do.

I must thank all the Joburg crew for the awesome times, most notably the Monday or Tuesday night where we didn’t sleep at all. The manager couldn’t believe it when she came down at around 5:30 to check on the breakfast making, and we were still there chilling! Anyway, I had some &Union beer sent to the boys in Joburg so they can taste some of the finest, and some Nederburg wine, for some local flavour!

Thanks to everyone for the great times, great stories to come! So much to tell you, it’s mad.

So it seems Mexico and Australia need to be next on the traveling list…

0 Comments Justin Bergh Album Launch Tonight: ‘Inside Out’

Article written by the brilliant on the 09 Jun 2010 , in the Cape Town Dates To Diarise category

justin bergh inside out album

Being an ex Rondebosch boy (I shouldn’t say this — registration for next year might drop) I’m obviously well aware of who’s who. There was that one oke who became a lank successful cricket player. There was Gcobani Bobo. There is even that guy who runs that raddest blog in the world…SLXS…oh no wait that’s a bit of a shit website. Don’t read that one. And there is Justin Bergh, one of South Africa’s top singer song writers.

He’s very unlike much of what we expect from local musicians, well ‘Idols’ who spend their days playing free gigs to kids at Kenilworth Centre and Blue Route Mall. You’ll all remember the classics “Love The Sinner” and “No Ordinary World” You can listen to Love The Sinner on this handy piece below:

Justin Bergh by justinbergh

So I’ve got Justins new album here with me, and it’s phenomenal. You have to listen to Miss America, that is if you haven’t already heard it:

2010 Album by justinbergh

And…Justin is going to be supporting Bryan Adams on his South African tour in July. That’s next month which is pretty awesome.

So for the album launch tonight at Wembley Square, here are the details:

South African singer songwriter Justin Bergh launches his anticipated third album “Inside Out” at Wembley Square, Cape Town on Wednesday 9 June 2010 from 17h30. Justin will be performing an acoustic set of tracks from the album, including the first single “Special” and his latest chart hit “Miss America”, penned by international recording artist Bryan Adams. “Inside Out” will be available digitally at Nokia Music Store from 7 June 2010.

Crisis, it’s going to make a welcome change from my eardrums being vuvuzela blasted today!

9 Comments Flexicell :Prepaid Flexibility With Contract Benefits

Article written by the brilliant on the 08 Jun 2010 , in the Uncategorized category

Are any of us in this place still using prepaid airtime? If you are, you’re probably wishing that you could pay less for your airtime.

Flexicell is a unique way to buy your airtime if you are an existing prepaid cellular phone user. It’s a great way to reap the benefits of a contract, without having to be bound down by those lengthy two year contracts which we all know and don’t like to sign.

This is where Flexicell really comes into play. A set, agreed amount is debited from a customer’s account each month, and this amount is then loaded onto the clients phone. It is a hassle free way of receiving your airtime as the amount is automatically debited from your account, and loaded directly onto your phone. No having to buy vouchers and load them into your phone anymore.

So to put it simply, you’re receiving better rates than you would on your regular prepaid option, but you’re not bound down by a contract spanning 24 months. And as we know, it can be a bit difficult to get out of a contract, but with Flexicell, you simply need to offer one months notice should you wish to cancel the service.

Flexicell is definitely worth a look if you’re looking at saving some money on your airtime costs!

1 Comments Olimp Sports Betting Bar In Cape Town

Article written by the brilliant on the , in the Cape Town Restaurants, Pubs, Coffee Shops etc category

What is this Olimp Sports Betting Bar in Cape Town all about I hear you ask?

olimp4

When I was a little girl boy I always wanted to be like a real celeb. Then I became a pseudo/faux ‘blogger’ which was like a consolation prize from the people running my life. I really wanted celeb status but you know…you need to work for that and that’s a bit of a mission! Anyway, continuing on my way to be famous by association, I continue to go to society events, in the hope that someone is like “Hey, put that dude in the next Coke commercial!”

Because you only need to be right once, and then bang, you’re done.

So on Thursday night last week, I minced over to the media launch (Nogal) of Olimp bar in Wale Street, Cape Town. Ja, media. You hear me lecturers at Varsity College, I told you I’d do it!

You may or may not know this, but I hate being behind a computer, but I love just cruising around events and socializing and having a bit of a jol. I think I need to do socializing for a career! You know, rent a crowd. But rent me. For an extra dollar we’ll…anyway.

Olimp is surely going to be the place to go during the Soccer World Cup because you can dop, skop en drop some dollars, all the while having a healthy chance of making that money back depending on how good you are at placing your bets. When they said sports betting bar, I wasn’t aware that it was like…full on betting! And by this I mean there are ‘totes’ (Is that the right word?) with real live people in them who take your bets. You feel like such a high roller!

Which naturally you are.

I wasn’t too sure about the place in the beginning because it seemed, well a little small. That is until Gabi and Marina told us there was an upstairs section. Of course! I needed to be higher…up.

The place is awesome and I say this partly biased, because some of the women there were amazing! But all in all…and all (Ey Durbz bru!)…it’s an amazing place. It doesn’t really strike me as a sports betting bar because I always thought they were these seedy places where we’d be drinking shots of diesel and playing games of pool for the pink slips of our cars. But Olimp is kitted! There are so many flat screen TV’s I thought it was a joke. But that’s how they’re rolling I see. It’s so that you can’t miss a second of the game and while it is excessive…well that’s the way we like it.

It’s not for the faint of heart though, because it looks like things could get serious…you know once I drop 40 billion Deutschemark on the donkey at the races! You can also bet on all sorts of races so you don’t need to go there only if you’re into horse racing, you can just bet on whatever is going. Mmmmmm a new addiction for you sir!

But seriously they’ve done it right, it’s in the right place, so you can pop through at lunch, slam a few brews, drop some cash and win some cash, all in  apremium environment, totally different to what I imagined a sports betting bar to be.

Here is the write up on Olimp Sports Betting Bar in Cape Town:

In MAY 2010, our state-of-the-art venue opened it’s doors to avid sports-fans.

OLIMP boasts a total of 35 big screen TV’s, fully licensed bars and delicious food. Most importantly, OLIMP owns an internationally patented betting system that allows one to place bets on both local and international games at any time. Bets can also be placed through their online betting facility by visiting the website www.olimp.co.za

OLIMP is situated at 120 Loop Street, Cape Town (Cnr Loop & Wale) and is open 7 days a week.

OLIMPS SPORTS BETTING BAR will be screening all the big games, all the time, day and night!

Anyway, to prove I was there (And in the hope that I continue getting invited to events to make me look busy and important and international and sexual), I thought I’d throw in a few photos of the night. Mostly of me. I’m vain and superficial like that. Enjoy my facial expressions though, class clown class clown! I might as well throw photos of myself in here, because the regular press will never do that to me. And please enjoy the photo BOMB at the bottom, classic:

olimp1

olimp2

Oh howzit miss, I appreciate you looking at us but you are married!

olimp3

Oh howzit, suit up!

olimp5

olimp6

olimp7

olimp8

Photo bomb BOOM!

Thanks to Gabi and Marina for the invite, much appreciated :)

Lots of love, now go win me some money! Writing this badly doesn’t pay for itself.
