Volkswagen Citi Billabong 1.4i Special Edition
It appears VW have tried (But failed) to better the VR3. Ha ha they’ll never beat our old beater!
But this is quite a cool idea, at quite a price as well considering the target. When you mix Billabong with CitiGolf you’re looking at a buyer who needs to take into consideration not only the price of the car, but also the price of his weed every month as well as accessories such as bong replacements, rolling paper, beanies etc. Remember, weed will always win, so you’re essentially competing against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The Volkswagen Citi Billabong comes in at R96100, which is a little steep for a stoner during a recession. The thing with the Citi Golf is, they never have to change the machinery to make the car because it’s always the same shape. All they need to charge is for the materials, labour, profits etc. Other companies have to pay designers each year to make new designs, change the equipment or something to make a new shape, but CitiGolf keep all the same stuff and still charge R96000 for a Billabong Citi Golf.
I think the mere fact that “bong” makes an appearance in the new Citi, it’s clear we’re targeting a market who do nothing but smoke pot all day, watch Clerks, Super Troopers and “I’m on a boat”, and then Volkswagen still have the balls of steel to charge R96000.
What?!
The Citi Billabong comes with the following:
Billabong decals, sidestripes and tailgate
Available in White and Tossa Blue (Tossa Blue? Are you serious! Are you guys smoking crack and pot? “Bong” and “Tossa”?)
Sports seats in two tone black and blue trim
Tinted windows
15-inch alloy rims
Lowered suspension
CD/MP3 front loader
Limited to 500 units
Comes with a Billabong laptop backpack, Vonzipper sunglasses worth R1000, large Billabong beach towel and a Billabong keyring.
So yeah it is kind of cool, but hey…it’s still a Citi!
You’re still going to be telling chicks you’re driving a Citi Golf, but if you do it with a flair of nonchalance you’ll still be able to live the dream. Been rocking the VR3 for years!

Hey Bro… Dig the blog, got some good articles
This one in particular got my interested. Now you see they selling a billabong/VW Golf… Aimed at the young target market of today, so anyone who has finished school up to your lets say 25… As billabong is a surfing brand, SURELY THEY’D PUT ROOF RACKS on the goddam thing!! hahaha, just blows my mind;)
The freebies are also good but hell, R96k… i’d rather go for something else! hahaha
Oh shit you’re completely correct on that…I didn’t even think of Billabong and roof racks…will do a follow up on this, shot bud.
GOSH…IDIOTS!
Tina!
Come get your ham…
The car looks good and all…but damn 96k is really quite steep! They can go fuck themselves for 96k
Yeah R96k is pushing it a bit…especially in a recession!
I have better things to spend R96k on than a Citi Golf that is the same shape as a million years ago
i realli want one but damn, R96K is reali pushing it!!!!!!! we in recession. you would think that it would be cheaper than that espicially if all they added was a decal and rims.
It should at least come with a bong and a cabana boy
im buying one by tomorrow
I have a citi Golf 2007 1.4 –White in colour.
Kms. 30000.
Immaculate cond.
What trade in do i get.
Phone : 031-9132154
Absolutely no idea!
Although a mate of mine just got R73000 for his Citi Velociti on a trade in…
More than R30k for a car thats a million years old is too much! For R96k one can be hittin up the chicks in sumin much more better than a tampon! Even tata has the basic safety (abs, airbags etc) sorted for what R15K less- jah it’s a tata but it’s in the golfs class and offers so much more for so much less! Come on guys, gals- i know golfs are legend but i’m sure there’s sumin else you can wast R96k on than a square golf!
Yeah dude I don’t think the Golf is exactly going to be pushing too many units out the factory!
I’d rather get a second hand Polo, even the older one and save some cash, spend it on other stuff.
Well, I bought my son a Billabong, he is so exited and all of us can’t wait. Since it is a special edition he will always stand out from the crowd.
Hey Gerrit
I actually saw one for the first time in real life last week at Cavendish Square, it does look really good!
I think most people are commenting on the price purely from the stance of the car design not changing over the years, so no development needs to take place in that regard, and it is also essentially a young persons or historically a students car and R96k is quite steep.
Having said that, it is virtually impossible to get a car for ‘cheap’ these days.
But Volkswagen could (Considering the target market) add some extra safety features that should be standard such as ABS and at least two airbags…that type of stuff.
i own a 2007 citi 1.4 tossa blue .i paid 50 000 for it .i had a look at the billabong and the only difference is the seats and the doorpads fuck me paying 97000 for that i added a few accessories on my car and my car looks and feels sexier than the billabong
Hey Vinod
Exactly! You’ve got the right idea on this, save cash and have your car look much better…nice
dudes.
Im contemplating buying this car for my wife, seeing as she loved the velocity i bought her 2 years ago. she doesnt even want to get the yaris or polo, and i drive a polo, what a stunning car, so yea, looks like im gonna fork out the cash and do it. seeing as it is discontinieud. it will always stay a legend car !
cheers maits
Hey Quintin
Yeah as we’ve said, it’s a great car, just for the target demographic it’s a little out of the price range, but as a present…nice! Another cool one that I’ve seen rolling around is the City Rox (I think?). Are you from Cape Town?
If so, check this out: http://www.slxs.co.za/2009/09/02/win-a-volkswagen-scirocco/
You can win a VW Scirocco, and some pimped out Citi’s.
Better than a kick in the teeth!
I so wish to own one pls God help me Thulani E D/k

OMG. I own one of these. Bought it last year. My first car. I’m turning 26, so no longer a girl almost a wonan. Paying through my ears. Grew up a lot in the last year. And feel like an old fool driving something that reads Billabong on the side…But still love her to bits.
I’ve got one I can’t describe it just good, you need to look after it that all. It is just like you are not driving golf believe me. I ve bee using about a year!
