Sebago Docksides Possibly Designed For Cape Town

sebago docksides in cape town

Welcome to your new life!

I’ve always had a damn good reason for buying expensive things, and as the years have gone by there have been more and more reasons why I choose top quality products in my life. Because inevitably, an expensive product works out cheaper in the long run, because an expensive product is for the long run.
Cheap sunglasses break easily and damage your eyes. I’d rather pay R3000 for good sunglasses now, rather than having serious eye damage later. I’d rather have one good pair of sunglasses that will never date and I will never have to get rid of, rather than 3 different pairs of plastic crap that I need to buy each season. I don’t buy into trends at all. I buy for the long run. And I never realized this years ago, but it’s an environmentally friendly way of living. All these fashion sunglasses that you see people buying get thrown out, and where does this plastic end up? In landfill. My sunglasses will never see a landfill because I’ll always keep them. They don’t date and I don’t care about trends.

The same as the way I basically exclusively wear Woolworths white v neck t shirts…most of them are 100% organic cotton, and they are all white. No dyes are needed for them and no printing is needed for ridiculous prints on them.

And this is why I choose Sebago Docksides. They are my summer shoes, and I wear them every day in summer, unless I’m wearing my Havaianas. My old man has had a pair of Sebagos for some 25 years now, and they’re still in working order. People who tell us that we’re crazy to spend R3000 on denim jeans, or R3000 on sunglasses, or R1200 on a pair of shoes…well they’re just delusional.

I was reading in GQ that Seth from 2oceansvibe has a pair of 8 year old GH Bass penny loafers…expensive…but what rubbish pleather shoes from Markhams will last that long? The people who buy expensive are the clever ones. That’s why manufacturers make cheap things, because they break, and so they sell more. So they’re actually not selling to poor people, they’re selling to stupid people. Fact. Think about that.

Now manufacturers such as Bronx are catching onto the fact that Sebago Docksides are a classic design, and they’re making their own ones that look exactly the same, but by buying those you’re only fooling yourself. It’s like buying a watch that looks like a Rolex, or buying a fake one, you’re only fooling yourself. I love buying into brands that make quality products and have a story to tell. Bronx don’t have a story to tell, they merely manufacture replicas in the case of their boat shoes.

Don’t be a plebb, buy the original Sebago Docksides

Sebago Docksides on the other hand, well they have a story to tell. Their stories run across the oceans of the world, from epic parties that the sailors have, to the actual battles on the sea. Sebago have been there all along the way, they’ve experienced things that Bronx shoes can only ever dream of. The brand carries in it broken spirits, broken sails, victory, failure, champagne, blood, sweat, tears, sailors returning to their families after months at sea, mad parties on far away islands. And Sebago basically own the classic boat shoe design we see today. So why buy another cheaper, no doubt poorer quality knock off?
Sebago Docksides are a thing of pure, simplistic design. They are best worn with no socks, and because they’re pure leather, they don’t pick up any smells. They’re as tough as nails and the more you wear them, the better they get. The first three months can be a little harsh on the feet, but once they’ve softened up and moulded to your feet, you’re in for a lifetime of joy with your new shoes. They can be worn with shorts or jeans, and those in the know will immediately know that you mean business. Anyone who knows the lifestyle will immediately have respect for someone wearing a pair of Sebago Docksides. Ask the men at Royal Cape yacht Club 😉

You can wear them to smart events or you can wear them to the summer beach house. Wear them to the shops, around the house, on the boat…they’re your favorite summer companion! I rock them with slim cut raw denim from those Swedish chaps:

Me, this morning.

They’re available at Yacht Squadron in the V&A Waterfront, but I got mine at Street Fever in Cavendish Square, their selection is much wider.
Do yourself a favour and invest in a pair of quality summer leisure shoes. Get yourself a pair of Sebago Docksides. The retail for around R1200.

You’ve earned it.

  2. Hi Sihle

The best option is to go to any Timberland store, and they sell full cleaning kits for suede shoes, they’ll be able to give you the best products for your Sebago’s :)

    Kind regards

  3. Hi there

I’m not sure where in GP, but they are usually sold in shops that sell casual sailing gear. Give these people a call as they are the South African distributors:

    Medicus Shoes Ltd.
    2 Diesel Street North End
    Port Elizabeth
    Phone: 27414841645
    Fax: 27 41 484 496

    Kind regards

  4. Hi,

Is there any other place in Cape Town to purchase Sebagos, as I’ve tried getting a pair of Sebago squadrons but those above stores do not have size 8s.

  5. @Sulaiman : I bought a pair of Sebagos size 9 at Cape Union Mart in Bayside Mall in Bloubergstrand/Tableview this weekend. They only had two variations though.. Cost: R 1 300.
